2.9a: demonstrate an understanding that chemical equilibria are dynamic

Some chemical reactions are reversible
  • reactants ←-> products
  • often used as chemical indicators
    • eg. phenolphtalein changes colour depending on whether it is protonated (acid) or deprotonated (alkali)

When the rates of the forward and backward reactions are the same, the reaction is in dynamic equilibrium
