2.7.1c: recall the reactions of the oxides of group 2 elements with water and dilute acid, and their hydroxides with dilute acid

OXIDES + WATER
Oxides react with water to form a metal hydroxide
  • eg. RaO(s) + H2O(l) → Ra(OH)2(s)
OXIDES + DILUTE ACID
Basic oxides react with acids to produce a salt and water

  • eg. CaO(s) + 2HNO3(aq) → Ca(NO3)2(aq) + H2O(l)
